Chapter 186: No Subordinates
Xi Dai Zi’s nostrils ran with two streams of blood.
A strong vertigo also assailed him.
Xi Dai Zi tenaciously pushed on.
Before the battle, he had been wounded.
It was an old injury inflicted when the ghost Lan Lu had ambushed him.
Soul injuries were difficult to recover from completely.
Then the fierce battles ashore had taxed Xi Dai’s abilities to their limits.
“I must push onwards!”
“Everything for the clan, everything for the homeland!!”
Xi Dai Zi’s body was in a bad state, but his fighting spirit remained high.
He firmly took a few breaths, slowly regaining his strength.
After getting the two silver levels back, his position was finally stable, and his next action needed no consideration, the first target of attack was the gold cannon.
A survey of the entire battlefield determined the gold cannon was the biggest threat.
Bang, bang, bang.
The water cannons opened fire without the slightest hesitation.
The Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps’ ship had been berthed at port and had been used as a fort.
The water shells hit the hull in quick succession, turning the ship into unrecognizable wreckage, sinking it.
Luckily because the dragonman youngster had given the order to retreat ahead of time, the mercenaries had evacuated and few were lost.
“The gold cannon…” Chi Lai lamented as he dove deep into the sea, dodging the bombardment.
Gold level equipment was very valuable, and weapons like this cannon was strictly controlled and very difficult to buy on the market.
To Chi Lai, the Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps was not the imperial navy, it would be difficult for them to replace this cannon in the future.
“I can still repair it!” Zi Di judged from the Deep Sea Monster Fish from the ocean floor.
Before the bombardment, she had dispatched two deep sea salvage alchemy puppets to infiltrate the seafloor under the port, prepared to retrieve the cannon.
Through the Deep Sea Monster Fish’s detection methods, she saw the moment the gold cannon was about to sink down.
The cannon had been struck, bending its barrel distinctly.
As for repairing it to working condition and how much that would cost, a verdict could only be determined after recovering it.
Losing the gold cannon was the biggest damage the Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps had suffered yet during the Two Eyes Island battle.
Zi Di, Zong Ge, and the dragonman youngster were prepared for this loss.
Because the gold cannon was a one shot weapon.
If the gold cannon fired and the enemy still remained, they wouldn’t be so stupid as to allow the Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps to fire it a second time.
Rou Zang was like that, and so too was Xi Dai Zi.
Although the gold cannon was good, it needed a ship of the same level, or a minimum, a silver level magic ship.
That would protect the cannon, giving it a chance to fire two or even three times.
This deficiency was something the Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps had.
Xi Dai Zi’s cannon barrage solved the threat the gold cannon posed.
The Fertile Land priest appeared hesitant.
The Wealth priest was dead, sapping most of his battle intent.
This was not his parish, he still wanted to help, but didn’t want to take risks.
When the Fertile Land priest didn’t step up, the human fighters’ morale slumped.
A priest was dead, and the magician Shi Fa had changed sides, causing an enormous impact.
The dragonman youngster and Zong Ge were determined to fight their way onto the deck.
They couldn’t allow the Vinegar Jar to show off its might again!
Otherwise, the port battlefield situation would go completely south.
Now, the main human force on the port was the Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps.
The Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps didn’t have the motivation to fight to the death, this wasn’t their territory.
But the dragonman youngster never gave the order to retreat.
Because if he retreated, morale might crumble, exposing their backs to a fishman slaughter.
Continuing to fight meant there was still a chance of victory.
Turning heal to retreat meant disastrous casualties!
The brutal close quarters fighting meant the dragonman youngster couldn’t stop halfway.
The Wealth priest’s people wanted to help pacify the fishmen, but the unexpected had happened, spurring on the ultimate climax of the battle, thus the dragonman youngster and the others had no choice but to start using their full strength.
It was an utter mess.
Fishmen, pirates, Hun Tong, mercenary corps, merchant alliances, loners, and more were all entangled with each other.
They had all sunk into an immensely chaotic maelstrom that gradually spun beyond anyone’s control.
Every group had their own determination, everyone had their own opinion. These determinations and opinions were transmitted through sturdy bodies, ice-cold weapons, resplendent magic, ferocious battle skills, and collided with each other.
What the final outcome was, who the final winner would be, no one could say at this moment.
The aura of magic began to come from the depths of the underground, then quickly permeated in all directions, forming a vast undulation.
As it turns out, in the underground depths, the purple scaled fishman and Shi Fa had finished preparing for the spell and were not beginning to cast it together.
Just as the purple scaled fishman said, when the cast began, it was quite loud.
This magic undulation was instantly detected by all parties.
“The magic fluctuation came from the island’s underground!” Song Shou thought as he was busying defending himself from Er Gua Zi’s attacks.
“What are the fishmen up to?” Yang Ding slowed his offensive as he looked towards Hun Tong.
Hun Tong couldn’t pull away.
He was still entangled with the gold level pirate Qi You.
Hun Tong was also reflecting over the fishmen’s true goal.
The fishmen’s main army had already been exposed and had been intercepted by Hun Tong’s Puppet Clone and Yan Ding.
But Hun Tong didn’t know what his enemy’s goal was.
He though the fishmen wanted to take back their homeland.
But the fishmen army’s deployment and attacks all illustrated that they had another goal, taking back their homeland was at best a secondary objective.
“It isn’t just the Blue Green Coral clan, there is also a third party.”
“The third power is above the Blue Green Coral clan; they are the leader of this offensive.”
“What in the devil are they doing?”
Hun Tong immediately contacted the pharmacist to ask about the situation.
The pharmacist and alchemist were silver level casters that served Hun Tong.
Their battle with the purple scaled fishman had left one dead and one injured.
The pharmacist that survived immediately reported the situation to him.
He was in the milled of emergency healing and responded to Hun Tong with agony, “Their true objective?”
“Unclear.”
“But I can sense that it seems she is looking for something in the underground.
The pharmacist stated his guess but had no proof.
“Useless!” Hun Tong angrily scolded him internally.
He was never satisfied with the two casters under him.
But there was nothing he could do.
Casters were rare, and those that would live on his island, far from the bustling imperial mainland, were even rarer.
Hun Tong could only follow up on the pharmacist’s guess, “Don’t tell me that there is a treasure on Two Eyes Island?”
Although Hun Tong had captured Two Eyes Island, he needed the fishmen’s secret spell to truly control it.
“If there really is a treasure, then the fishman elder might be using it to pay the third power.”
“That gave the fishman clan powerful help, creating an alliance to launch this attack.”
“There is another possibility. They are unleashing a most powerful secret spell that would turn Two Eyes Island into a living weapon!”
The more Hun Tong reflected, the darker his expression grew.
He quickly reacted, shaking his head internally.
“There is a seriously lack of information currently, it’s unnecessary to think this much.
“It isn’t wrong to block whatever the enemy wants to do.”
“The magic undulation has leaked, indicating that they don’t have the energy to mask it and that they are very pressed for their goal.
When Hun Tong thought of that, he immediately gave the order.
He first ordered the pharmacist that after he was done recuperating, that he would attack the magician with all of his might.
The pharmacist lacked battle intent, but when he candidly agreed, he demonstrated his determined battle intent.
Hun Tong understood him and gave more precise orders. The pharmacist would hurry to the barracks, converge with the city guard, and after that, not delay in healing themselves.
The pharmacist had no choice but to do that.
Hun Tong then firmly ordered the city guard’s auxiliary commander, “When you converge with the pharmacist, monitor him secretly, coerce them if need be, and immediately lead the army into the underground depths and destroy the enemy magician’s cast!”
The city guard auxiliary commander looked agonized, but he could only summon his courage and agree to do so.
After transmitting these orders down the command chain, Hun Tong still didn’t feel at ease.
“I have no subordinates.”
At that moment, he fully felt how scarce his talents were, and that he didn’t have reliable subordinates.
His troops had many silver levels, and normally this was fine. Word went out saying that these numerous silver levels made Two Eyes Island seem strong.
But this war had become a quality touchstone test.
In the end, these silver levels had a unbearable performance and were all repulsive with no exceptions.
Of the two casters, one was dead, and one was wounded. The city guard commander was ambushed and beheaded by Dao Hen, utterly unable to do anything leadership wise, and One Eye’s patrol fleet had minute battle results.
“If these guys could perform like Long Fu and Shi Qi, then Two Eyes Island wouldn’t have gotten to this state!”
Although Hun Tong had been fighting, he had been paying attention to the overall situation than the battle.
His information system had been working normally, giving him first hand news.
From the defender’s side, the Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps were the absolute best.
Hun Tong’s subordinates had universally dragged their groins, and although the merchant alliance representatives had many silvers, they had been trapped on the ocean battlefield to protect their fleets. Commander Tie Bang was dead, and after Commander Beng Dai took back his flagship, he was unable to get involved with the port battlefield and couldn’t fulfill anyone’s expectations.
By contrast, the Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps was the port battlefield’s main force, they had slaughtered the most fishmen and entangled the fishmen’s silver levels. The gold level shell had even inflicted serious damage on the Vinegar Jar. If they had a little more luck, the blow would have been fatal to the Vinegar Jar, which would have determined the outcome of the battle then and there.
Hun Tong didn’t think the dragonman youngster and Zong Ge were just treading water.
Prior intelligence stated that the Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps could face Rou Zang openly, this proved the dragonman youngster’s impressive defense.
Thinking about it, it wasn’t strange.
He was a dragonman, it was likely that through his impressive bloodline, his dragon scales were comparable to gold level armor.
“This mercenary corps’ strength is perhaps worthy of expectations!”
Upon thinking of that, Hun Tong personally contacted Long Fu.
He offered a high price to hire the Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps to abandon the port battlefield and to instead rush into the depths of the new island to prevent the enemy magician from using their large scale magic.
