Chapter 122: The Defense of Two Eyes Island (1)

Black clouds covered the sky, it was obviously the afternoon, but it was dark, and the seas were rough.

As waves slapped the shore, they too slapped everyone’s hearts.

Two Eyes Island was already on high alert.

The beast tide had persisted for many days, and despite the efforts of the city guard, mercenary corps, and other organizations to stop it, it still rolled up to Two Eyes Island.

The Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps’ defensive position was on the northeast of the old island.

The port was empty, and immense iron panels, stakes, and coral pillars lined the coastline as temporary fortifications.

All ships had sailed into the island.

To accomplish this, Hun Tong had displayed boldness – he had ordered many places on the old island to be blown up to crudely make internal docks for ships to take refuge in.

There was no other option.

If the ships were still berthed at the port, the ships would bear the brunt when the beast tide approached.

Of course, Two Eyes Island was not an ordinary island, it was a coral ball cage tree.

It was a living being that could restore itself and grow back.

Therefore, for the next year, when the old island gradually sank to the seafloor and slowly grew back, these temporary cavities from explosives would slowly be filled in.

By the time the old island floated back up the next year, these cavities would all be gone.

The constant alarm reminded everyone that the beast tide was about to hit.

The dragonman youngster, Zong Ge, and the others on the fortified coast saw many vertical fins suddenly emerging from the white waves.

“They’re coming!” Bai Ya’s heart sank, his lips were dry, and he was tense.

The dragonman youngster, Zong Ge, and the others nevertheless remained motionless. Their ever movement influenced the Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps’ morale.

“It’s like the intelligence said, it is a sailfish school.” After Zong Ge realized that he relaxed.

The Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps had the Deep Sea Monster Fish supplying them with information, and their control over the battle far exceeded that of others.

The sailfish were fast swimmers; therefore, they were the first of the beast tide to attack the defensive line.

“Fire!” The dragonman youngster ordered.

Bang, bang, bang.

A line of alchemy firearms fired into the waves.

Whoosh, swish, whoosh.

A line of alchemy crossbows also fired arrows soon after.

The sailfish were hit, but even though they died in an instant, because of their high inertia, they still ferociously slammed into the embankments.

Bang, bang, bang.

The sailfish school was very wild, and when they struck the embankments, the wall of coral pillars set up violently shook.

They also dented the iron panels upon impact.

The sailfish also paid the price for this in blood, and numerous ordinary level sailfish were struck down dead, only the sailfish with cultivation survived.

But soon after, before the surviving sailfish had time to move, the sailfish behind them rammed into them, seriously injuring or even killing them.

The Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps suffered no casualties, but none of them relaxed.

This was only the first wave, and everyone could sense how frenzied the school of fish was.

This was only the first course.

The dragonman youngster not only paid attention to his defensive line, but he was also receiving news of other places. The alchemy puppets constantly monitoring the other defensive lines, passing on the situations there to the survivors.

If one of Two Eyes Island’s defensive lines collapsed, the beast tide would attack from the flank, putting the Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps in a dangerous situation.

If that happened, they would have to risk death to break out of the encirclement.

Since this concerned their life or death, the dragonman youngster was forced to be prudent.

Through this information, he found that he was the first line, while the Iron Club Mercenary Corps was the second.

A group of ghost face fish attacked the defensive line.

The racial magic – Soul Absorption, attacked.

But this time it was different.

They had Wealth Church priests protecting them.

The priests had prepared divine spells, and when those activated, gold light glittered, a characteristic of the Wealth Church.

Divine spells dispelled the racial magic, Soul Absorption, and it didn’t suppress them into stillness like it did the Iron Club Mercenary Corps previously.

They were all inspired and with the ghost face fish before them as regarded as their target of vengeance, they fought with high morale.

The dragonman youngster quickly withdrew his attention.

Their defensive line was welcoming the second wave of beasts.

It was their old friend, the lightning sharks.

The lightning sharks charged, and also suffered disastrous losses, however, the remaining lightning sharks didn’t repeat their disastrous mistake and instead withdrew back into the seawater and shot the embankment with racial magics.

For a moment, condensed electric spears and Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps arrows and bullets crisscrossed through the air as they fired at each other.

The mutual firing didn’t continue for long.

The Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps obviously had superior firepower, and quickly shot the sharks dead, leaving only shark bodies bobbing in the waves until they eventually sank to the seafloor.

“The embankment’s defenses are about to collapse!”

“This is only the second wave, should we start using alchemy puppet?”

The dragonman youngster directly ordered, “Deploy all basic maintenance puppets!”

They had 8 basic maintenance puppets; they were from the Deep Sea Monster Fish. They could carry out basic maintenance and emergency repairs for ship damage.

This was maintenance puppets’ first public appearance.

Their operational tools had been replaced with hammers, rivet guns, glue tubes, and other such tools.

The depressed and deformed iron panes were struck flat with their hammers, causing the cracks in the coral pillars in the wall to spread, some pillars even crumbled and formed gaps in the wall.

Three other maintenance puppets worked together. One was transporting new coral pillars, and another was cleaning out the debris. The pillars were put in, and upon filling the gaps in the wall, rivet guns and glue tubes activated simultaneously to blend the city wall back together.

The third wave of the beast tide quickly arrived, but the network of basic maintenance puppets worked even faster than them, they had accomplished their maintenance task a step ahead and had withdrawn already.

With the city defense and occupying the commanding position, the Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps had a thick bunker to secure the advantage with.

But the other defensive line were doing far worse in comparison.

After the fourth wave of the beast tide, the vast majority of defensive lines had already collapsed, forcing the defenders to retreat to the second defensive line.

“Only the Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps is still at the first defensive line?” Commander Tie Bang was also gathering all of the information on the island, and after he noticed this, he was flabbergasted.

“Is that so? They surprisingly have such convenient alchemy puppets?” One Eye was envious, and he muttered to himself, “Those arms smugglers truly have many good things.”

One Eye was the leader of the patrol defense fleet and was a silver level fighter. When the Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps first arrived, he welcomed the mercenary corps to the island.

Currently, One Eye was the overall commander of the old island’s defense.

Hun Tong and the Wealth Church’s head priest, along with the main force of the city guard were defending the new island.

The new island was the beast tide’s actual target, while the old island was merely collateral damage to the disaster.

Therefore, Two Eyes Island’s feudal lord’s faction concentrated most of its forces on the new island. Most of the old island’s industry had already been relocated, thus, the merchant alliances and the other powers were protecting it too.

It wouldn’t do to not garrison it.

If the damage was severe, and the old island was destroyed, unable to grow back and recover, then Two Eyes Island would only be a single entity.

As time passed, the beast tide’s main force would eventually batter against the old island.

At that time, everyone on the island wouldn’t be confronted by single beast groups, but rather a integrated mix of lightning sharks, ghost face fish, sailfish, and other aquatic lifeforms frothing to attack them.

Defensive lines everywhere were destroyed.

The Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps too was forced to withdraw to the second line, for the first defensive line was thoroughly battered, and no longer worth maintaining.

The Bandage Mercenary Corps was in the worst shape.

They had already retreated to the third defensive line.

When they were at the second defensive line, they were ambushed by a group of ocean frogs.

These frogs were excellent jumpers and all of the ordinary level ones could jump over the ad hoc walls and into the mercenary corps to wreak havoc.

It was because of these ocean frogs that the Bandage Mercenary Corps’ front line sank into chaos, causing their fighting spirit to violently drop until finally causing the defensive line to collapse.

The Bandage Mercenary Corps was forced to defend the third defensive line to the death.

The third defensive line was located where Hun Tong demolished the island to create the temporary dock.

The dock had 12 of the Bandage Mercenary Corps’ ships.

If these ships were destroyed, the losses would be disastrous.

When the Bandage Mercenary Corps arrived at ships, they displayed a stronger fighting spirit and battle intent, because this was their corps’ property!

The 12 ships were crowded together in a line.. The flagship White Bandage was at the front, with the other ships bound together with iron chains, forming a stable high platform.

Some of the ocean frogs jumped onto the ships but were quickly wrapped up by an immense white budge and rendered immobile.

The other mercenaries swarmed over and beheaded the ocean frogs as fast as they could.

These white bandages were an alchemy treasure that not only strangled enemies but could also act as temporary ship hole pluggers and be woven into a net that could bind artillery shells, they were very flexible.

With the White Bandage keeping watch, the Bandage Mercenary Corps finally stabilized themselves.

“Rib, ribbet, ribbet!” The frogs’ croaks echoed like gigantic drums.

A dozen ocean frogs launched into the sky like cannonballs, then in a parabola, smashed into the rear of the Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps’ second defensive line.

“Ocean frogs!”

“Don’t panic, stabilize your position.”

“Follow the plan!!”

The Dragon Lion Mercenary Corps reacted with lightning speed. The cultivators quickly mobilized and charged at the ocean frogs.

The dragonman youngster, Zong Ge, and the others had collected all kinds of information on the other defensive lines, and after they learned of what the Bandage Mercenary Corps had encountered, Cang Xu and Zong Ge quickly discussed, then issued the emergency response measure.

Lan Zao charged at an ordinary level ocean frog.

The ocean frog lowered its head and charged at him.

Lan Zao shouted, and urged his body’s battle qi, suddenly changing the direction of his charge and brushed past the ocean frog.

The ocean frog howled, a massive blade cut across its body, and blood ejected from it like a fountain,

Lan Zao immediately turned around to slash the ocean frog’s back.

His battle strength had increased greatly!

He had an entire set of bronze level equipment.

The blade wound had been caused by the cutlass in his hand.

He had used almost all of the money the dragonman youngster had given him to buy this equipment.

He was thankful for the dragonman youngster from the bottom of his heart.
