Chapter 467: The Inheritance Door Opens
Beneath the snow-capped Splice Mountain, Grafting Town gradually faded into the dusk of the setting sun.
In the heart of Grafting Town, within the residence of a gold level magician Jia Bing, Zi Di and Zong Ge were making their final attempt.
Zi Di's spell succeeded, scattering beams of magic light that clung to the square metal door.
The door hummed and vibrated under the searing glow.
Zi Di gritted her teeth, straining every ounce of concentration to sustain the spell.
Zong Ge took a deep breath and lunged forward. His biceps bulged as he swung the Gold Flower Hacksaw in his clenched hands, creating a blur of light in the air.
Clang!
The saw struck the metal door with savage force. The powerful recoil sent it bouncing slightly upward before Zong Ge slammed it back down.
The Gold Flower Hacksaw clung to the metal, its teeth spinning violently as they gnawed into the surface.
Sparks flew in a whirlwind, dancing through the air before crashing back down onto the door.
Smack, smack, smack.
The crisp clatter of sparks against metal mingled with the frenzied grinding of the saw against the door, assaulting Zi Di and Zong Ge's eardrums.
Time passed, bit by bit..
Not long after, a flash of crimson blood light suddenly flickered across Zong Ge's body.
The half beastman snorted coldly, forced to take a step back and withdraw the Gold Flower Hacksaw.
Zi Di could only slowly cease the spell she had been sustaining.
As the spell's radiance and the swirling sparks gradually faded, the exposed metal door remained completely intact, not even a scratch visible.
Zi Di sighed, "Ah, it still won't work! This is our strongest attack."
For that assault, she had expended a silver level spell scroll to support Zong Ge.
Zong Ge led the charge, wielding the Gold Flower Hacksaw. This weapon excelled at slicing through hard materials.
But during the attack, the blood aura erupting from Zong Ge disrupted his battle qi infusion, nearly injuring him.
Zi Di looked at Zong Ge: "The technique the Axe Gang leader planted on you before dying must be removed immediately. Have you noticed it's triggering more frequently?"
Had this technique not activated, Zong Ge could have endured far longer.
Yet it offered little aid in breaching the metal door.
Zong Ge stared at the metal door, his voice calm, “Even without the blood feud hindering me, we would still fail this time. The metal door's defenses are beyond comprehension, truly befitting something originating from a legend level figure.”
The two had now pieced together the information regarding the metal door.
They knew it was left behind by Master Fan Sheng Za Zhong, concealing his legacy!
This answer came from the documents and notes Zi Di had obtained from Jia Bing.
After Jia Bing unexpectedly discovered the legacy, he rented this building and converted it into an alchemy laboratory.
He had tried countless methods here to crack the metal door, but none succeeded.
This was precisely why he had deliberately placed the alchemy lab in the town center. Because the metal door was right here!
Typically, magicians establish alchemy labs in secluded areas rich in natural resources.
Simply touching the metal door granted anyone a fragment of information left by Master Fan Sheng Za Zhong.
The message detailed the test criteria.
Only when grafted magic plants met these standards could the metal door be opened.
Jia Bing first attempted this legitimate path.
But he failed.
Though Jia Bing was a magician, a gold level one at that, his expertise lay in alchemy puppets. He was quite inept at cultivating magic plants.
While not entirely unskilled, he clearly couldn't meet the legendary figure's standards.
Jia Bing didn't give up, constantly trying new methods. His latest plan involved using acid to corrode the metal door. That's why, when Zi Di first arrived, she saw the unfinished potion Jia Bing had left behind, specifically designed for acid corrosion.
“Our last attempt failed. Let's go,” Zong Ge said.
Zi Di nodded without hesitation.
This had been their agreed-upon plan all along.
Securing Jia Bing's inheritance had already been a significant achievement. Breaching the metal door held no hope.
Zi Di and Zong Ge could only rationally call it quits.
Before departing, however, they activated the formation diagram panel, expending pearl bubbles to imbue the metal door with a Deceptive Disguise spell.
From Jia Bing's diary, Zi Di learned that he had never shared information about the metal door with anyone else.
His specific plan was to act alone first. If he could take it down covertly, that would be ideal. Only if it proved impossible would he seek assistance from others.
Thus, Jia Bing's faction remained unaware of the metal door's situation.
Had they known, Zi Di and Zong Ge would never have resorted to the Deceptive Disguise spell.
Jia Bing's situation bore a striking resemblance to that of Master Cai Jing.
Both had discovered the legacy of Master Fan Sheng Za Zhong and sought to secretly excavate it.
Jia Bing was the unluckier of the two.
He was killed before making any progress whatsoever. His entire inheritance was subsequently seized by others.
By comparison, Master Cai Jing had better fortune.
Though disrupted by Ba Qi and exposing the legacy's secrets, he swiftly adjusted his strategy. Inviting Da Bei and Zhong Bei to assist accelerated his progress exponentially!
Now, it was their turn to attempt it.
A row of potted plants was arranged before the metal door.
A scene reminiscent of before unfolded once more.
Curved beams of condensed light shot forth from the centers of five fingers. The beams pierced the potted plants, relentlessly draining the nutrients from the grafted magic plants.
These plants withered at a visible pace, some collapsing outright.
Cai Jing, Da Bei, and Zhong Bei held their breath, growing increasingly tense. For this was the final moment, only the last yellow beam remained.
The beam pierced the magic plant, drawing energy that flowed back along the beam into the five fingers insignia.
“No!” Zhong Bei cried out suddenly.
The last magic plant showed signs of instability, seeming on the verge of collapse.
Da Bei immediately pulled a vial of potion from his robe and splashed it directly onto the magic plant in the pot.
It was the bloodline stabilizer!
With the potion's aid, the plant on the brink of collapse steadied itself once more.
But the respite was short-lived. Within seconds, signs of collapse reappeared.
Da Bei emptied another vial of bloodline stabilizer, forcing the plant to hold on.
Within about ten minutes, Da Bei had used over twenty vials of the potion. The exorbitant cost sent a chill through his heart.
Despite such a heavy price, the magic plant finally stabilized.
The yellow light seemed to be sated, slowly retracting and making the badge with its five-fingered design shine even more brilliantly.
Multicolored radiance emanated from the badge, covering the surface of the metal door before rapidly seeping into it.
The glow was not intense and soon faded away.
The next moment, Cai Jing, Da Bei, and his son watched as the metal door slowly vanished, revealing a small, safe-like interior space within.
“We did it!”
“Is this the legend level inheritance?”
Cai Jing and the others, too preoccupied to celebrate, all turned their intense, probing gazes toward it.
